About SmartSize

What the app is and who it's for.

What is SmartSize?

SmartSize is a Shopify app that gives every shopper the right answer to “what size should I buy?” It’s a sizing hub with two parts: beautiful, multi-language size charts on every plan, and an optional AI size quiz (Pro plans) that recommends a specific size to each shopper.

Do I need SmartSize if I already have a size chart in my product description?

Most shoppers won’t scroll for it. SmartSize puts a clear Size Chart button right next to the size selector, opens it in a popup, and works across every product. You also get unit conversion, multi-language display, multiple tabs (e.g. How to Measure), and a mobile-optimized layout — none of which a static description image can do.

What kinds of stores is SmartSize built for?

Anyone selling size-dependent products: apparel (men, women, kids), lingerie, footwear, pet products (dog/cat collars and harnesses), and tailored clothing. If your shoppers ask “will this fit?” — SmartSize is for you.

Do I need both the size chart and the size quiz?

No. ~90% of merchants start with just the size chart, which is on every plan. The quiz is a premium add-on (Pro plans) that converts the chart from a passive reference into an active recommendation. You can use one or both.

Installation & compatibility

Themes, setup time, and code requirements.

Which Shopify themes does SmartSize work with?

All modern Shopify 2.0 themes (Dawn, Sense, Refresh, Studio, Trade, and any well-built custom theme). Integration is done via theme app extensions — no code changes required.

How long does installation take?

A few minutes. You install the app from the Shopify App Store, enable the app embed in your theme editor (one click), and the Size Chart and Find my size buttons appear automatically next to the size selector on your product pages.

Do I have to touch any code?

No. The default setup is fully no-code. If you want fine control over where the buttons appear, you have several options: drag-and-drop placement, automatic placement next to the size selector, a floating button, a CSS selector, or a code snippet for developers.

Can I place the buttons exactly where I want?

Yes. The simplest option is automatic placement (next to the size label). For full control, drag the app block into your product template in the Shopify theme editor. For unusual themes, you can target any element with a CSS selector (Before / After / Append / Prepend), or paste a snippet anywhere in your theme.

Will SmartSize slow down my storefront?

No. SmartSize loads lazily — the popup code is only fetched when a shopper clicks the button. Until then, the storefront sees just the lightweight button asset.

Size charts

Building, customizing, and translating charts.

Do I have to build my size charts from scratch?

No. SmartSize ships with pre-made templates by audience — men, women, girls, boys, etc. — that come with real sizes, real measurement ranges, and illustrated How to Measure guidance. Pick the closest one and tweak it. You’re typically done in a few minutes.

Can I import an existing size chart I already have?

Yes — size charts can be imported and exported as JSON files (Starter plan and above). Export a chart from one store and import it into another, hand-edit it in any text editor for bulk changes, or back it up before a redesign.

Can I customize colors and fonts to match my brand?

Yes. Each chart has 4 built-in style presets (Bold, Classic, Clean, Soft) and you can save your own — colors, fonts, corner rounding, spacing — and reuse it across charts.

Can a single chart have multiple sections?

Yes. Charts support tabs — for example, Size Guide / How to Measure / International Sizes — plus a header zone that stays visible across tabs. Inside each tab you can add tables, callouts (“Runs small, size up”), images, videos, fit scales, and free text.

Does it handle international sizing (US / EU / UK / JP)?

Yes. SmartSize ships with default mappings between US, EU, UK, JP, and other regions. You can override any mapping for a specific chart, or import a mapping you’ve already tuned on another chart.

Can shoppers see cm or inches automatically?

Yes — automatic unit conversion is on every plan, including Free. Shoppers see the unit they expect (cm/in, kg/lbs) based on your store’s default and can switch in the popup.

How many size charts can I create?

Free: 2 charts. Starter: 10 charts. Growth and every Pro plan: unlimited.

The size quiz (Pro plans)

How the AI size quiz works, with examples.

What is the size quiz?

An interactive popup where the shopper answers a few questions and gets a single answer: “Your size is M.” The result screen also lets the shopper see how their measurements would fit every other size in the chart — which would be tight, which would be roomy, which wouldn’t fit.

What's the difference between the Prediction and the Precision quiz?

Prediction asks 3–4 quick lifestyle questions (height, weight, fit preference) and the AI predicts the shopper’s measurements behind the scenes. Best for shoppers who don’t have a tape measure handy.

Precision asks the shopper to enter their actual body measurements (chest, waist, hips). Best when accuracy matters — fitted clothing, tailored items, lingerie.

Mini example. A shopper buying a relaxed-fit hoodie probably doesn’t want to grab a tape measure — Prediction is the right choice (“I’m 5'8", 160 lb, I like a relaxed fit” → Your size is L). A shopper buying a structured blazer wants a real fit — Precision is the right choice (“Chest 38 in, waist 32 in, hips 39 in” → Your size is 40R).

Is there a quiz for lingerie?

Yes — a precision-style quiz with bra-and-underwear-specific imagery and prompts (bust, underbust, waist, hip), so shoppers can find their bra size without guessing.

What about pet products?

Yes — SmartSize supports quizzes for dogs and cats with the right measurements (neck, chest, back, weight, girth) for collars and harnesses.

Will the quiz remember a shopper's size next time?

Yes — this is recommendation memory, included on every Pro plan.

Mini example. A shopper takes the quiz on a t-shirt and is recommended M. They come back two weeks later to a different product with a totally different size table — say a fitted dress with sizes 4 / 6 / 8 / 10. SmartSize remaps their stored measurements against the new chart and shows them Size 8 without asking them to retake anything.

Is the quiz available on every plan?

No — the quiz is the premium add-on, available on the Pro plans (starting at Pro 100, $19/month). Free, Starter, and Growth all include unlimited size charts but no quiz.

Can I customize the quiz to match my brand?

Yes — pick an accent color, set corner rounding, and the quiz inherits your typography from Settings. The quiz UI is translated out of the box in every supported language.

Pricing & billing

Plans, the recommendation quota, and what counts.

How does your pricing work?

Flat monthly price, no usage charges. Four plans listed on the Shopify App Store:

  • Free — $0, 2 size charts, no quiz.
  • Starter — $9/mo, 10 charts, advanced design + AI features, no quiz.
  • Growth — $12/mo, unlimited charts, no quiz.
  • Pro 100 — $19/mo, unlimited charts + the size quiz, up to 100 size recommendations / month.

If you outgrow Pro 100, higher Pro tiers (Pro 250 → Pro 10K) are unlocked in-app and billed through Shopify the same way — no separate checkout. Annual billing saves 20% on every paid plan.

What does a "size recommendation" actually count as?

A size recommendation is counted per unique shopper per calendar month. The first time a shopper gets a recommendation in a given month, your quota decreases by one. If the same shopper comes back later that same month and gets another recommendation — even on a different product — your quota does not decrease again.

Mini example. You’re on Pro 100 (100 recommendations/month).

  • Shopper A takes the quiz on a hoodie → quota: 99 left.
  • Shopper A comes back the next day, takes the quiz on a pair of jeans → still 99 left (same shopper, same month).
  • Shopper B takes the quiz on a t-shirt → quota: 98 left.

So “100 recommendations / month” really means up to 100 distinct shoppers per month, with unlimited repeat visits to each.

Will I be charged extra based on usage?

No. Every plan is flat — there is no overage billing on any tier. If you need more recommendations than your tier includes, you upgrade to the next Pro tier. Your card is never surprised.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — every paid plan includes a 14-day free trial. The Free plan is genuinely free forever; no trial needed.

What happens if I run out of recommendations in a month?

You’ll know long before it happens. Your current quota is shown live on the SmartSize home page in the admin, and we send email notifications as you get close to your cap so you can plan an upgrade in advance.

If the cap is reached, the quiz is not taken offline — there’s a brief countdown delay of a few seconds in front of the quiz for new shoppers, a soft throttle that nudges merchants to upgrade without hiding the experience. Returning shoppers continue to see their size instantly from recommendation memory with no delay. Upgrading to the next Pro tier is one click and removes the delay immediately.

Do you offer annual pricing?

Yes — annual billing saves 20% on every paid plan.

Mini example. Pro 100 monthly is $19/month. Pro 100 annual is $182.40/year — that’s $15.20/month, a savings of $45.60 a year. The savings compound on higher tiers (Pro 10K saves about $1,200/year).

Where do I buy the higher Pro tiers (Pro 250 and up)?

All plans are billed through Shopify, including Pro 250 → Pro 10K. The only difference is visibility: just the first four plans (Free, Starter, Growth, Pro 100) are listed publicly on the Shopify App Store. The higher Pro tiers are unlocked in-app — you’ll see them surface as you approach your Pro 100 cap — and they’re billed through Shopify the same way as every other plan, so there’s no separate checkout, no second invoice, and no extra account.

Can I switch plans later?

Yes — upgrade or downgrade at any time. Your charts, quizzes, settings, and product links are preserved across plan changes.

Languages & translations

What's translated, who controls it, and how.

Which languages are supported?

The size quiz ships translated out of the box in around 26 languages — see the full list of supported quiz languages. If your language isn’t there, email us and we’ll add it. Size charts can be translated into every storefront language you publish in Shopify (AI-assisted or by hand).

Who translates the size quiz wording?

SmartSize. The quiz UI is maintained by us and shipped already translated — you don’t need to write or upload anything. If a phrase needs to change for your store, email us and we push the correction.

Who translates my size chart content?

You do — but with AI assistance. In the chart editor, click Sync with AI and SmartSize translates everything to your published languages. You can also edit translations by hand; manual edits are protected from being overwritten the next time AI sync runs.

What if I update my chart later — do translations break?

No, but you’ll see them. Updated blocks are flagged as stale in every translation. You can re-sync them with AI in one click, accept them as-is, or fix them manually. A bulk action in Settings → Size chart settings → Translations lets you translate every missing chart for a language at once.

Returns, performance & data

Business outcomes and shopper privacy.

How does SmartSize help reduce returns?

Sizing-related returns happen when the shopper had to guess at checkout. SmartSize replaces the guess with two answers: a clear chart for self-service, and a personalized recommendation from the quiz when they want one. Both reduce “didn’t fit” returns at the source — before the order is placed.

What shopper data does the quiz collect?

Only what the shopper enters in the quiz (their measurements or quiz answers) and the recommended size. This is stored so the shopper sees their size immediately on a return visit (recommendation memory). No name, no email, no payment info. Shoppers can always retake the quiz to update or replace their stored measurements.

Is SmartSize GDPR-compliant?

Yes. We respond to Shopify’s standard customers/redact and shop/redact webhooks, so customer data is removed on request. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.

Support & migration

Getting help and switching from another app.

What support do you offer?

Priority email support is included on every paid plan (Starter and above). Email [email protected] and a real human replies — usually within a few hours during European working hours.

I'm migrating from another sizing app. Can you help?

If your migration goes beyond size charts — for example, rebuilding multiple quizzes, re-creating product links, or porting custom configurations — the SmartSize team can do it for you, as long as you’re on a paid plan. Email [email protected] with your current setup and we’ll handle the heavy lifting so your store goes live in SmartSize without a gap.

What if I need a feature you don't have?

Tell us. SmartSize is built and supported by a small team that ships fast — many of our most-used features came directly from merchant requests. Email [email protected].
